Our Story
In 1992, founder and President, Jennifer Denise Crumpler went to Haiti with Professor Twilla Haynes and a group of other nursing students as a requirement for a Transcultural Nursing Class at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing. Her thought was, this will be an "easy A", plus she'd have the experience of traveling to a third world country. Little did she know the impact this trip would have on her life. She fell in love with the people and found them to be some of the most loving, caring and resilent people she had ever met. The devastation and poverty touched her heart in a way that she had never experienced. She couldn't sleep and rest, and felt God wanted her to give herself to the work of helping these precious people. She returned home and shared her experience with her husband, who agreed to take a trip with her. In 1993, she returned with her husband, and the people of Haiti captured his heart as well. They continued to return yearly with Twilla Haynes and her team. They also worked with a local Pastor and his school. As their sons grew into their middle school/high school years, Jennifer Denise and Bill took a sabbatical from Haiti. In 2010 when the Earthquake hit Port-Au-Prince, Jennifer Denise could not sleep as she thought about the suffering that took place. She had lost contact with Twilla Haynes, whom she had travelled with over the years. She used the internet to find her, and made plans to go September 2010. Since that time she has travelled annually with Eternal Hope in Haiti, as part of a medical mission. Jennifer Denise was instrumental in adding a dental team to EHIH's medical team. God has given Jennifer Denise and her husband Bill a heart and love for the Haiti people that is beyond words. In 2016, they formed Helping Hands in Haiti, Inc., who's mission is to help improve the quality of life for the people in Northern Haiti, through healthcare, nutrition and expanding educational opportunities for young people. They are not re-inventing the wheel, but partnering with other organizations like EHIH to offer healthcare and nutritional services. They are most excited about their Educational portion. In addition to offering scholarships to students desiring to further their education after high school, they are also helping to provide educational opportunities for families who are not able to provide tuition for their children. To date, three students have received scholarships.
